Facts and figures for 2022

13 February 2022
Spectators
Up until ten days before the tournament it was unthinkable. A live audience at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, but visitors were welcome in the end at Rotterdam Ahoy with a maximum of 1,250 per session. In the end, 14,282 spectators passed the box office. True tennisfans. "The atmosphere really felt like 10,000 visitors in the stands," said tournament director Richard Krajicek. Ticket sales for the 50th anniversary edition in 2023 will probably start soon.

Most Aces
Not only did Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime battle for the coveted title in Rotterdam, both players also hit the most aces until the final. The Canadian tournament winner hit the most aces: 43. The Russian Andrey Rublev 'only' reached 32 aces in the year before.

Shortest game
Also Dutch success in singles. Botic van de Zandschulp only needed 66 minutes in his first round against Spanish qualifier Bernabe Zapata Miralles. It was no guarantee for success, as the Netherlands' highest ranked player in the world rankings stumbled in the second round.

Longest match
The match between the Italian super talent Lorenzo Musetti and the Swede Mikael Ymer was played in anonymity on Court 1 on Tuesday afternoon. It was the longest match of the tournament without an audience. They were on the track for no less than 2 hours and 41 minutes. Musetti had a taste for it, as both his second round and the quarterfinals lasted over two hours.

Giant Leap
A lot can change in a week. Jiri Lehecka survived the qualifiers in Rotterdam and surprised friend and foe in the main draw with victories over the top 100 players Denis Shapovalov, Botic van de Zandschulp and Lorenzo Musetti, after which Stefanos Tsitsipas stopped his winning streak. The 20-year-old Czech started the tournament as the number 137 in the world, but thanks to his semi-final spot, he jumps on the ATP ranking to the global top 100. There is certainly a chance that Lehecka will be admitted to the main tournament directly on the basis of his ranking next year.
