ANDREY RUBLEV ON THE HUNT FOR SECOND ABN AMRO OPEN TITLE

08 December 2022

The winner of the 2021 ABN AMRO Open, Andrey Rublev will hunt for his second title in 2023. The world number eight will join the tournament in Rotterdam Ahoy for the fifth time. The 50th anniversary edition will be held from 11 to 19 February 2023.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "Andrey Rublev perhaps won the most bizarre edition in the 50-year history of the tournament. After all, in 2021 we were not allowed to welcome a crowd at all, so he won the title in almost total silence. I think, like me, he is looking forward to doing it again in a full Rotterdam Ahoy."

Apart from 2021, the year the 25-year-old Rublev won the title, he made three more appearances at the ABN AMRO Open. On his debut in 2018, he reached the quarterfinals, losing to Grigor Dimitrov. In 2020, he repeated this, this time facing Filip Krajinovic in the quarterfinals. In 2021, he won the final from Marton Fucsovics, having previously beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andy Murray, among others. Earlier this year, he reached the semi-finals, in which tournament winner Felix Auger-Aliassime proved too strong.

List of participants
Rublev, the number eight in the ATP Ranking, is already the fourth top-10 player after Stefanos Tsitsipas (4), Felix Auger-Aliassime (6) and Daniil Medvedev (7) to announce his arrival in Rotterdam Ahoy. The Dutch contribution consists of Botic van de Zandschulp and Tim van Rijthoven.

Richard Krajicek: "The field is taking shape more and more. We expect to get several more commitments in the coming weeks. It's nice to see that the winners of the last two years are coming back."
