Final Day honoured by a visit from the King

19 February 2023

The 50th edition of the ABN AMRO Open received a large number of visitors on the final day. King Willem-Alexander was a guest in Rotterdam Ahoy all Sunday afternoon. After the reception hosted by Ahoy’s director Jolande Jansen, tournament director Richard Krajicek and Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb,  a visit of the exhibition with highlights from the history of the tournament took place prior to the final. The King saw photos of his father and grandfather attending the largest tennis tournament in the Netherlands. After the final of this jubilee edition between Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner, the King met three hard workers behind the scenes : Wilma van der Sluijs from the players' desk, head referee Dries Crama and Jan Akkerman.

King Willem-Alexander does enjoy great finals in Rotterdam. His last visit was in 2018 with Queen Maxima in the unforgettable battle between Roger Federer and Grigor Dimitrov. A special finale, since Federer was the strongest man in Rotterdam. Federer captured the title for the third time, which  is still a standing record in the 50 years of the tournament's history.
