GRIEKSPOOR RECEIVES WILDCARD FOR 50th ABN AMRO OPEN

30 January 2023

Tallon Griekspoor will participate in the ABN AMRO Open with a wildcard. The number 2 in the Netherlands takes the place of Andy Murray, who has decided to reschedule the next part of his season after the Australian Open. The anniversary edition of the tournament will be held from 11 to 19 February 2023.

After his victory in the tournament in Pune, Tallon Griekspoor decided to revise his schedule. Initially he would travel to South America in February. Due to his rise in the ATP rankings, however, he is obliged to participate in the ATP1000 tournaments of Indian Wells and Miami. A run-up on hard court is a better preparation. Initially, he would have had to rely on the qualifying tournament for participation in the ABN AMRO Open, because the three wildcards for direct entry had been granted.

Andy Murray, after some great but exceptionally long matches in Australia will, after recovery, take part in a training block to build on his momentum ahead of a busy year. This created a free wildcard, which was initially accepted by him.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "We consider it a blessing in disguise. On the one hand, it is a pity that Andy Murray will not be present. On the other hand, I am glad that we can admit Tallon to the main draw. He is the man in form and I think he can show great things in the ABN AMRO Open.”

With Felix Auger-Aliassime, Andrey Rublev, Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka, four former winners remain on the list of participants in Rotterdam Ahoy. The field is led by Stefanos Tsitsipas, finalist of the Australian Open, the current number 3 in the world.
