ABN AMRO Open 2024 in stats and facts

18 February 2024

During the ABN AMRO Open, a lot of data is kept up to date in collaboration with the ATP Tour. Here is an overview of some key stats and facts:

A record number of visitors

The 2024 ABN AMRO Open and 51st edition of the tournament set a new visitors record. No less than 126,963 spectators were guests in Rotterdam Ahoy over the past nine days. 'That is due to a combination of factors,’ says tournament director Richard Krajicek. 'After the corona crisis, people enjoy going to an event again. In addition, Dutch tennis players are doing well. Tennis is a popular sport amongst spectators. It was also surprisingly busy in the early weekend. Sunday in particular is a fantastic day, because you can get even closer to players during their training sessions. In these moments, they are more relaxed. Attendance records are being broken at many tournaments worldwide.’

The Dutchies on top

Orange was the color on the final day of the ABN AMRO Open 2024. With three Dutchmen (Wesley Koolhof, Robin Haase and Botic van de Zandschulp) in the doubles final. In addition, the Carota Boys, now known worldwide as Jannik Sinner's fan club, also made an unmissable appearance at Rotterdam Ahoy. The four Italian best friends were dressed in bright orange carrot costumes and had their photo taken with their hero courtside after the awards ceremony. Then it was time for a fourteen-hour drive back to Italy near Turin.

Most aces

Tallon Grieskoor was left stranded in the semi-finals just like last year. Yet the Amsterdammer did claim one another noticeable achievement. The Dutchman hit the most aces in his four matches: 58. The Pole Hubert Hurkacz came in a close second with 48 aces in just two matches.

Shortest match

Two matches were wrapped up in 66 minutes. The Finn Emil Ruusuvuori battled against Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round on Thursday evening but was able to dispose of his opponent to advance to the next round. The quarter-final between Jannik Sinner and Milos Raonic also took just over an hour to complete, but that was due to Raonic's retirement with injury.

Longest match

The first singles match became the longest match of the tournament on Monday afternoon. The experienced Belgian David Goffin and the young Croatian talent Dino Prizmic played on Rotterdam Ahoy center court for no less than 2 hours and 56 minutes. Goffin's experience was ultimately decisive.

The Youngest debutant

The scoop was already set in motion when entering the court. At 15 years old only, Thijs Boogaard became the youngest participant ever in the 51-year history of the ABN AMRO Open. The talent from Geldermalsen was no match for Frenchman Hugo Gaston, eight years his senior, in the first round of the qualifications. 'It was a cool experience,’ Boogaard beamed after his match in the qualifying round. 'I enjoyed this. This clearly leaves you wanting more.’

2025

The governing bodies of the tournament are already looking ahead to 2025. And here’s a little tip for your agendas. The 52nd edition of the ABN AMRO Open will take place from February 1 to 9, 2025.
