Andrey Rublev third former champion in Rotterdam

30 October 2023

ANDREY RUBLEV THIRD FORMER CHAMPION IN ABN AMRO OPEN
The winner of the 2021 ABN AMRO Open, Andrey Rublev will hunt for his second title in 2024. With the current world number five, the third top-five player has been announced. He is the third former winner to be in action in Rotterdam Ahoy. The 51st edition will take place from 10 to 18 February 2024.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "With Andrey Rublev we have a new title contender. Like Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime, he has shown he can perform in Rotterdam. It is nice to see that we have already have 3 former champions in our draw. Rublev is proving to be in top form again this year. Also considering his qualification for the ATP Finals last weekend.''

In addition to 2021, the year the 26-year-old Rublev won the title, he made three more appearances at the ABN AMRO Open. On his debut in 2018, he reached the quarterfinals, losing to Grigor Dimitrov. In 2020 he repeated this, this time with Filip Krajinovic as his opponent in the quarterfinals. In 2021, he won the final from Marton Fucsovics, having previously defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andy Murray, among others. In 2022, he reached the semifinals, in which tournament winner Felix Auger-Aliassime proved too strong.

'’Andrey Rublev won probably the most bizarre edition in the history of the tournament. In 2021, without an audience and in almost total silence due to COVID-19. In 2023 he unfortunately had to miss the tournament, but I am sure he is looking forward to come back in a full Rotterdam Ahoy'', said Richard Krajicek.

Draw

Rublev, the number five at the ATP Ranking, is the third top-five player after Daniil Medvedev (3) and Jannik Sinner (4) to announce his arrival in Rotterdam Ahoy. Also present again is Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won the title in 2022.

Richard Krajicek: "The draw is getting more body. We expect several more commitments the coming weeks. In any case, with three former winners, it promises to be another exciting edition."
