Diede de Groot is again aiming for the ABN AMRO Open title

16 January 2024

The first edition of the women's wheelchair tournament at the ABN AMRO Open left wanting more. Not only because of the win by home favorite Diede de Groot, but also because of the massive attention from the fans. In 2024, the tournament will be even more special, including a NOS broadcast of the women's final on NPO1, but also through a unique new design of the Wheelchair Arena.

Diede de Groot is again aiming for the ABN AMRO Open title
During the last 50th ABN AMRO Open, a women's wheelchair tournament was also on the program for the first time. Top favorite Diede de Groot won the title in her own country, which she called one of her most beautiful titles when she was elected Paralympic sportswoman of the year. It says a lot about the appreciation of the best player in the world for the design of the ABN AMRO Open.

Tournament director Esther Vergeer: "Last year was great. The match on center court, Diede's win and the high level of the game. It turned out to be such a good advertisement for the tournament that the media embraced it even more en masse this year. The NOS broadcasts the women's final live and the men's final in a comprehensive summary, but Eurosport, ESPN and Sky also broadcast matches. It is reason for us to convert our wheelchair court into a Wheelchair Arena.”

This year, Diede will again compete against a very strong field, including four opponents from the global top 10.
Tournament director Esther Vergeer: "The four best Dutch players are at the start and they are up against strong international competition. I expect it will give us great matches again. The arrival of Angelica Bernal from Colombia and Macarena Cabrillana from Chile is of course special, because it shows how wheelchair women's tennis is developing globally.”
