Finalist Jannik Sinner back at the ABN AMRO Open
30 August 2023Jannik Sinner, a finalist at the 50th ABN AMRO Open earlier this year, is coming to Rotterdam again in 2024. With his arrival and that of Daniil Medvedev, both finalists have been confirmed. The 51st ABN AMRO Open will be held in Rotterdam Ahoy from 10 to 18 February 2024.
Jannik Sinner, the current world number 6, announced his participation in New York, where he is considered one of the favorites for the US Open title. His recent win in Toronto shows that he is in top form and is excellent on hardcourt. Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "The winner and finalist of the tournament are always high on the wish list for the following year. Especially a finalist like Jannik Sinner. He is one of the young twenty-somethings currently taking over the baton to dominate tennis in the years to come."
Finalist in Rotterdam
Following his debut in 2020, where he made it to the quarter-finals on a wildcard, Sinner made his second appearance at the ABN AMRO Open in February. A fresh winner of the Montpellier tournament a week earlier, he was the man in shape. Victories over Bonzi, Tsitsipas, Wawrinka and Griekspoor took him to the final. Then, Daniil Medvedev proved too strong 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in three sets. The 22-year-old Italian is enjoying an excellent continuation of his season, including a semi-final place at Wimbledon and a win in the ATP1000 tournament in Toronto.
Richard Krajicek: "Jannik Sinner is one of the fine examples of our policy of giving Dutch and international top talents the chance to compete at the highest level. The wildcard we gave him as an 18-year-old is paying off. Not only with his preference for the tournament and his performance here, but also with all the activities he does off the court to give fans a unique experience."
Player field
After Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner is the second player to be confirmed for the ABN AMRO Open. In the coming months, the list will be further completed. As usual, the aim is to attract several top players. "We love the battle between the established players and the new top talents. That way we can present fans with top tennis every day of the tournament."
