Jiske Griffioen wins the all-Dutch get-together

16 February 2024

For the second year in a row, Jiske Griffioen's first meeting during the ABN AMRO Open was a duel against young talent Lizzy de Greef. Twelve months ago, Griffioen completed the job in a record time of just forty minutes. Yesterday, the world number 3 also triumphed. However this time, it was a real match : 6-3, 6-1, a testament to Lizzy de Greef’s promising future.

For Griffioen, another compatriot awaits in the semi-final today, since Aniek van Koot was too strong for Angelica Bernal 6-2, 6-4. Dutch women have been quite successful since World No. 1 Diede de Groot also defeated the Chilean Macarena Cabrillana 6-2, 6-2.

On the men’s side, four seeded players will be in action for the first time. For the outright favorite Alfie Hewett, Ruben Spaargaren is the first hurdle. Spaargaren is the only Dutchman left after Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers were both eliminated in the opening round.
