With Wesley Koolhof, the winners ring is complete
18 February 2024A dream came true on the final day of the 51st edition of the ABN AMRO Open for Wesley Koolhof. The 34-year-old Dutchman won the doubles title in Rotterdam Ahoy with his Croatian partner Nikola Mektic. In the final battle, they were just one step ahead of the Dutch duo Robin Haase and Botic van de Zandschulp whom they defeated in two exciting sets: 7-5, 6-4.
The 34-year-old resident of Nijmegen is in enjoying his last season tour. During the award ceremony, Koolhof received a beautiful tribute on the big screen at Ahoy from fellow tennis players, journalists and his future wife Julia Görges.
Wesley Koolhof always came to the largest Dutch tournament with his parents in his youth, and now he’s the one finally in the spotlight. This is his eighteenth tournament victory on the ATP Tour, but the very first in Rotterdam. And you never forget your first. A lot has happened for him since his debut on Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2013 together with Stephan Fransen and his final day at the ABN AMRO Open 2024. With this new title on the ATP Tour, Koolhof has an impressive track record. He reached number one in the world rankings on November 7, 2022 and won the doubles title at Wimbledon last summer. 'Eleven years later we finally won Rotterdam and then in a final against two Dutchmen. That's great. This title in Ahoy means a lot to me. The circle is certainly complete.’
