ABN AMRO REMAINS THE MAIN SPONSOR FOR THREE MORE YEARS AT ABN AMRO OPEN
10 February 2025The 52nd edition of the ABN AMRO Open concluded with a spectacular finale. In a sold-out final match, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in a thrilling duel against Alex de Minaur (6-4, 3-6, 6-2), marking the culmination of a record-breaking week. An impressive total of 141,894 tennis enthusiasts attended the tournament at Rotterdam Ahoy. Earlier in the day, prior to the final, ABN AMRO and Rotterdam Ahoy signed an agreement to extend the longest-running sponsorship in ATP Tour history for an additional three years.
Robert Swaak, Chief Executive Officer of ABN AMRO added: "The ABN AMRO Open provides an exceptional platform for both world-class tennis and wheelchair tennis. The tournament also serves as an opportunity to welcome many of our valued clients. Since 2009, we have been committed to giving wheelchair tennis the same prominence as other matches while striving to make a meaningful social impact through the tournament. This is achieved through our ABN AMRO Foundation and partnerships with organizations such as the Esther Vergeer Foundation. We are proud to serve as the tournament’s main sponsor and look forward to continuing to support outstanding athletic achievements in the years to come.”
Longest-Running Sponsorship
The collaboration between ABN AMRO and Rotterdam Ahoy can be called unique. Both parties have been connected since the start of the tournament in 1974. This makes it the longest-running titlesponsorship on the ATP Tour.
Jolanda Jansen, CEO of Rotterdam Ahoy, stated: "ABN AMRO’s titlesponsorship is already the longest-running on the ATP Tour, and it is fantastic that we can now add three more years to it. It is a partnership in its truest form. Together, year after year, we look at how we can make the ABN AMRO Open even better—for the players, the fans, and the media. The progress we have made in this regard is only possible within a collaboration where both parties continue to support and challenge each other to grow.”
Wheelchair Tennis Tournament
The wheelchair tennis tournament, which is organised by ABN AMRO, at the same time as the ATP500 tournament, will also continue for the next three years. The tournament involves both men and women players. This edition was won by Lizzy de Greef on the women’s side and Stephane Houdet on the men’s side.
Esther Vergeer, Tournament Director of the Wheelchair Tennis Tournament stated: "For me, the wheelchair tennis tournament is still proof after 17 years that sponsorship really does accelerate the movement. Without ABN AMRO, it would not have been an integral part of the ABN AMRO Open. But without Rotterdam Ahoy, it would not have been the success it is now. With national recognition and great international attention, we ensure that wheelchair tennis develops faster as a whole.”
Visitor Record
This year, the ABN AMRO Open surpassed the visitor record set the year before. No fewer than 141,894 visitors found their way to Rotterdam Ahoy. Both business visitors and regular fans showed significant growth. With more than 50,000 visitors, including 10,000 ABN AMRO relations, the ABN AMRO Open is once again the largest business networking event in the Netherlands.
Richard Krajicek, Tournament Director, shared: "One game, one set, a perfect match. This is how I would describe the collaboration between the tournament and ABN AMRO. International tennis marks a new beginning, with rising stars attracting new fans to the sport. To be able to help shape this alongside ABN AMRO and Rotterdam Ahoy is something I greatly look forward to. The 52nd edition of the tournament, with more visitors than ever, serves as a fantastic starting point for this new era.”
For Every Beginning
ABN AMRO is committed to accelerating equal opportunities, based on its brand promise: 'For Every Beginning.' As one of the largest banks in the Netherlands, it aligns its sponsorship policy with supporting athletes with disabilities, women, and children in disadvantaged situations. To achieve its objectives, ABN AMRO works closely with partners who share the same drive in sports, arts and culture, and social impact. This support is provided not only financially but also through coaching and leveraging its network. In this way, its sponsorship contributes to an inclusive society.
