Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "You can rightly call Grigor Dimitrov a regular at Rotterdam. He made his debut at the ABN AMRO Open at the age of seventeen and now, sixteen years later, I can announce him as a participant again. In all those years, he has always been one of the great fan favourites, who combines great play with a fantastic appearance.”
Top 10
Grigor Dimitrov crowned an excellent year with his return to the top-10 of the ATP Rankings. This year, he won the Brisbane tournament and reached the finals in Marseille, Miami and Stockholm. He achieved his best ranking in 2017, when he was number three in the world. In total, Dimitrov won nine tournaments, of which the Nitto ATP Finals of 2017 is the most impressive.
Previous participations in Rotterdam
In 2009, Dimitrov made his debut in the ABN AMRO Open, with a win against Tomas Berdych. In the second round, he had to compete against Rafael Nadal, who was number one in the world at the time. His debut ended in three sets. It tasted like more, the Bulgarian has already participated in Rotterdam ten times. His final against Roger Federer in 2018 was his best result so far. With his eleventh participation, he becomes one of the ten players with the most participations in the ABN AMRO Open. Robin Haase is the record holder with thirteen participations in the singles.
Richard Krajicek: "Grigor is perhaps the ultimate example of our philosophy to give young national and international talents a chance so that they feel at home in Rotterdam. Just like Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune and Felix Auger-Aliassime and Roger Federer for example. Grigor has more than repaid the wildcard and the trust from 2009, with fantastic performances on the court and many activities outside of it.”
