Robin Haase: A Record Holder in Ahoy

03 February 2025

Robin Haase is the world record holder for appearances at the ABN AMRO Open. The player from The Hague is competing in Rotterdam Ahoy for the seventeenth time. "At least it shows that I’ve been able to keep going for a long time. Maybe I’m old, but I still enjoy it."

The 37-year-old Haase walked through Ahoy yesterday with a big smile. On Sunday, he won the doubles title in Montpellier, France, alongside countryman Botic van de Zandschulp. This week, the world No. 64 in doubles is paired with Sem Verbeek, who reached the semi-finals in doublesat the Australian Open last month in Melbourne. "Actually, I was supposed to play doubles with Sem last week in Montpellier, but because of his good results in Melbourne, I switched to Botic at the last moment. After losing two finals with Botic (Rome 2023 and Rotterdam 2024), it was nice to finally capture a tournament victory. It was also a Dutch final in Montpellier against Tallon Griekspoor and Bart Stevens. You always prefer playing against fellow Dutch players in the final, and luck was on our side."

Of course, Robin Haase is happy to play another tournament in the Netherlands. "It’s always great to compete in Rotterdam. As a tennis player, you travel around the world all year, so being close to family and friends for once is really special."

Robin Haase and Sem Verbeek will play on Tuesday, not before 4:00 PM, on Court 1 against the British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool. "Anything can happen in Ahoy, especially when the crowd is behind you."
