Alcaraz returns to ABN AMRO Open
30 May 2025Carlos Alcaraz will be present at the ABN AMRO Open 2026. The four-time Grand Slam winner will defend the title he won in his debut earlier this year. The Spanish world number two is looking forward to his return to Rotterdam Ahoy. The 53rd edition of the ATP 500 tournament will be held from 7 to 15 February 2026.
Carlos Alcaraz: "My first visit to Rotterdam left me wanting more. Winning the title was obviously an important factor, but the atmosphere was excellent as well. The welcome I received from the fans, makes me excited to come back. I am looking forward to defending my title at the ABN AMRO Open.”
Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "Despite his young age, Carlos Alcaraz is already a superstar. He has made such a big impression on the fans this year, both on and off the court, that he was immediately at the top of our wish list. The fact that the connection between the ABN AMRO Open and him is mutual is evident from the fact that he was also immediately excited about coming back."
First Spanish Champion
At his debut in Rotterdam, Alcaraz immediately became the first Spanish champion in the history of the ATP 500 tournament. While illustrious compatriots such as Rafael Nadal and Juan-Carlos Ferrero stranded in the final, he was the first to immortalize his name on the boarding in Rotterdam Ahoy. With his characteristic spectacular play, he regularly managed to get the audience on their feet.
After a hesitant start, in which Botic van de Zandschulp made it difficult for him, he clearly felt at home on the Rotterdam hard court. Via Vavassori, Martinez and Hurkacz he qualified for the final. After a high-quality match with Alex de Minaur, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, Alcaraz came out on top.
Krajicek: "That the tournament had a record edition this year with almost 142,000 visitors is certainly also largely thanks to Alcaraz. It would be fantastic if we could come close to those numbers again next year. Ticket sales started today, so we are curious about the first results.”
